Steven M. Crimando, MA, CTM, is an emergency behavioral health clinician, educator, and crisis responder with expertise in applying behavioral sciences to homeland and private security, violence prevention, crisis management, and disaster response. He serves is the founder and principal of Behavioral Science Applications LLC and is the Director of the Homeland Security Human Factors Institute™, which functions as the firm's training division.
Steve is a Certified Threat Manager (CTM) with the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP), a Certified Master Instructor with U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Threat Evaluation and Reporting (NTER) program, and a certified Disaster Response Crisis Counselor (DRCC). He was an onsite Field Operations Supervisor for FEMA’s mental health response to the 9/11 attacks, coordinated psychological operations at New Jersey’s Anthrax Screening Center, assisted at major incidents including the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, several hurricanes, and multiple air crashes, and counseled many victims of mass violence.
Steve consults and trains for agencies such as US DHS, FEMA, DOJ, FBI, OSHA, HHS, SAMHSA, DTAC, and the United Nations. He serves as the chair of the ASIS International Extremism & Political Instability Community (EPIC) Steering Committee and a member of the Steering Committee for the Human Threat Management Community. He has authored many publications, and is frequently featured as an expert on crisis prevention and response in the media and courts.
