AGGRESSION AND RAGE MANAGEMENT (ARM)

Aggression and Rage Management (ARM) skills are essential for anyone serving in a crisis and emergency response role. Violent incidents, disasters and other crises are emotionally-charged events that can result in angry and aggressive behaviors from individuals and groups. Such emotional reactions can become obstacles to effective emergency response and a danger for responders.

Aggression and Rage Management (ARM) is a dynamic, skill-building program for anyone likely to encounter emotionally agitated, hostile and/or aggressive behavior in a crisis situation. The ARM program introduces early warning signs for the detection of potentially hostile individuals, strategies for verbal de-escalation and personal safety skills for escaping and surviving violent encounters.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Emotional and physical consequences of hostile encounters during disasters and emergencies

  • Recognizing and defuse acute anxiety, anger and hostility in the emergency environment

  • Applying a 3-step model to the management of fear and anxiety

  • Verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques

  • Increasing disaster/crisis responder safety

  • Anticipating behavioral flashpoints in groups, crowds and mobs

PERSONAL SAFETY FOR MOBILE WORKERS, LONE WORKERS AND TRAVELERS ABROAD

When it comes to violence prevention, the term “workplace” is synonymous with “on the job” and “on duty”, that is, wherever services are being delivered. Working alone and traveling for work or school create additional safety and security risks that require active management and mitigation.

There are a host of potential hazards for lone workers and those individuals working in field settings, on the road or on extended travel for work or school, that are not part of the typical location-based workplace violence landscape. Violence awareness, recognition and avoidance strategies are an essential addition to the mobile worker’s or traveler’s toolkit.

BSA’s team members have provided important safety and security information to more than tens of thousands of mobile workers in jobs ranging from community-based health and mental health care to sales and marketing. Every employee or student must be afforded the same level of protection from violence, regardless of their setting. The Mobile Worker, Lone Worker, Traveler Abroad violence prevention program helps an organization do just that.
